Terms of Service

Last updated: August 23, 2026

These terms govern your use of Campfire (“Campfire,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Campfire.

1. The service

Campfire is a study-organization tool for students: semester/course/grade tracking, a deadline board, and AI-assisted study features (lecture summaries, adaptive quizzes, crash-course study guides, and an AI coach chat) built on top of content you provide.

2. Accounts

You need an account to use Campfire. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information when you sign up.

3. Subscriptions and billing

Campfire offers a Free plan and paid Scholar and Laureate plans. Monthly and annual subscriptions include a 30-day free trial with no credit card required; after it ends you'll be billed the plan price you selected unless you cancel first. A single-term plan is a one-time payment with no trial and no renewal — it simply expires at the end of the term.

Payments are processed by Stripe. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal linked from your account. Cancelling stops future billing; it doesn't retroactively refund the current billing period unless required by law.

4. Your content

You own the academic content you create or upload (notes, files, grades, etc.). By using Campfire, you grant us a license to store, process, and display that content back to you, and to send the relevant parts of it to our AI processing providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) solely to generate the study features you request. Our Privacy Policy sets out which provider handles which feature.

5. AI-generated content

Summaries, quizzes, crash courses, and coach responses are generated by AI based on the materials you provide. They can be incomplete or contain errors, and are a study aid — not a substitute for your course materials, your professor's guidance, or your own judgment. You're responsible for verifying anything AI-generated before relying on it, and for complying with your own institution's academic integrity policies when using Campfire.

6. Acceptable use

Don't use Campfire to violate any law, to try to access other users' data, to reverse-engineer or scrape the service, or to abuse the AI features in ways that violate your institution's academic honesty rules.

7. Termination

You can stop using Campfire and request account deletion at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Campfire is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We're not liable for academic outcomes, missed deadlines, or grades — Campfire is a tool to help you stay organized, not a guarantee of any particular result. To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app evolves. We'll update the “Last updated” date above when we do; continued use after a change means you accept the update.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
