Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
This policy explains what information Campfire (“Campfire,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use the Campfire web app, how we use it, and the choices you have. Campfire is a study-organization tool for students — grade tracking, deadlines, session notes, and AI-assisted study features.
1. Information we collect
Account information. Your email address, and if you sign in with Google, your name and Google account identifier. We don't see or store your Google password.
Academic content you create. Semesters, courses, grades, deadlines, session notes, and any files you upload (e.g. course outlines, lecture slides).
Payment information. If you subscribe to Scholar, payment is handled entirely by our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your card number — we only receive your subscription status and a Stripe-assigned customer ID.
Usage data. Basic, aggregated analytics (page views, performance metrics) via Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. This does not include the content of your academic data.
2. How we use your information
To provide the service: storing your courses/grades/deadlines, authenticating you, and generating AI features (lecture summaries, adaptive quizzes, crash-course study guides, and the AI coach chat).
To process payments and manage your subscription if you upgrade to Scholar.
To maintain and improve the app (aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns only).
3. AI processing and third-party services
Campfire's AI features (lecture summaries, quizzes, crash courses, and the AI coach) work by sending the relevant academic content you provide — such as uploaded course materials or session notes — to a third-party AI provider for processing. We use two, and which one handles a given request depends on the feature:
- OpenAI — lecture summaries. Uploaded slide decks and lecture files are sent to OpenAI's API to generate the summary.
- Anthropic — course outline parsing, quizzes, crash-course study guides, the AI coach, and the project workspace assistant.
In both cases the content is sent only to generate the response you requested. We do not use your content to train any AI model, and neither provider uses content submitted through their API to train their models.
We rely on the following third-party service providers, each of which processes data only as needed to provide their part of the service:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
- Anthropic — AI processing for outline parsing, quizzes, crash courses, and chat features
- OpenAI — AI processing for lecture summaries
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing
- Vercel — hosting, and aggregated analytics/performance monitoring
4. Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, contact us at campaifire@gmail.com and we'll process the request.
5. Your rights
You can access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us. If you're located in Quebec, we aim to handle your information consistently with Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.
6. Children's privacy
Campfire is intended for university and college students. It is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect information from, children under 16.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll update the “Last updated” date above when we do.
